From Why Me? to Why Not? And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord. Luke 1:45 Mary is such a good role model for me. One couldn’t be much more helpless than a young, single, common woman in the patriarchal society of her day. God chooses her for a big assignment. One doesn’t have to debate the truth of the virgin birth to see that Luke was saying even the most helpless have a place. God is with the powerless. Listen and trust. Read Luke 1:39-45. Look at Mary’s response to God’s task: she goes to tell her family and accept the enormity of her role. What radical obedience! When in my life have I shown such trust in the face of such great obstacles? When have you trusted and stepped into the unknown with such faith? Prayer: Source of Strength and Hope, help me trust like Mary. Amen. - Judy Lyons All contents copyright 2006 by the Wisconsin Chapter of the Methodist Federation for Social Action.
