From Why Me? to Why Not? Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. Hebrews 5: 5-10 Now read Hebrews 5:5-10. This is the key for me. Jesus’s power lay in his absolute clarity about his mission and his obedience to God’s directive. He didn’t want parts of his assignment. He asked God for alternatives. But in the end Jesus lived God’s vision. Jesus taught God’s vision. Jesus risked saying that everyone counts as God’s child. When I believe this it affects my choices about everything I do: seeking justice, promoting peace, protecting the truly powerless, using resources. And with radical obedience must come radical faith. I can say with Mary “the Mighty One has done great things.” Prayer: God of Vision and Love, open my eyes and my heart to this call. Amen. - Judy Lyons All contents copyright 2006 by the Wisconsin Chapter of the Methodist Federation for Social Action.
