Do you enjoy the style of music used in contemporary worship service, but find the lyrics not always reflecting the depth of the Gospel's call to live a faith life marked by a commitment to social justice? Looking for some good resources to incorporate into contemporary or blended style worship? Just want to enjoy some good worship, singing, and supportive fellowship with others who have a commitment to justice ministries? Mark January 22 - 23 on your calendar. Our Wisconsin United Methodist Federation for Social Action chapter is sponsoring a retreat and workshop at Pine Lake Camp on the theme “Worshipping God…Just for Us or for Justice.” Friday night we will focus on the role of worship in the faith community. Saturday morning we will address characteristics of contemporary worship and then look specifically at United Methodist music resources followed by other music publishers’ materials. A good deal of the time will be spent singing interspersed among the various topics of discussion, but you don't have to be a polished singer or musician to participate. The event will start at 7 pm on Friday night, and will conclude with lunch on Saturday.
Currently, Phil is a Field Outreach Minister on the staff of the Iowa Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Cornell College and a Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Northern Iowa.
