An International Church
Vision and Realities

February 10 - 11, 2012
Pine Lake Camp, Westfield, Wisconsin

Looking toward the 2012 General Conference – the decision-making body for the international United Methodist Church – among the key questions for consideration are:

  • How is our denomination being led?
  • What will be the impact on, and possible reshaping of, the UMC if various studies and proposals are adopted?
  • How might the general church refocus its structure and mission?
  • What might be the challenges and opportunities that emerge out of growing Central Conference (non-USA) membership while the US jurisdictional conferences continue to shrink?

This February 10 – 11, 2012 gathering at the Rader Retreat Center of Pine Lake camp will provide information, education, dialogue, and inspiration as we explore what being a multi-national church means.

Rev. Lynn Scott, Director, Sabbath Way, LLC will be the event leader. Lynn is an ordained United Methodist minister who cares about the fullness and abundance of life. She has led retreats and workshops on spiritual formation, power, leadership and authority, prayer, discernment, Christian conferencing, and clergy sexual ethics. She was appointed to the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry for ten years and she is currently serving her second quadrennium as a North Central Jurisdiction representative to the Connectional Table (CT) - the body of the Church, established in 2005, to bring together the vision, mission, and money of the denomination. In this year before General Conference (GC), the CT is overseeing the 2013-2016 budget, receiving reports from the nine study commissions of the GC, and writing legislation for the Call to Action report.

Lynn’s ministry in the international church has taken her to the Central Conference regions of Africa, Eastern Europe, Europe, and the Philippines, and the Methodist Churches of England and Korea.  Her passion is to invite and midwife lay and clergy who desire to tend to the holy in their life and their communities.

Cost is $65 per person for double accommodations (Friday night housing, Saturday breakfast and lunch), or $95 for a single room.  The retreat will begin at 7:00 pm on February 10 and conclude with lunch the next day.  Sponsored by the Wisconsin United Methodist Federation for Social Action.
