The Wisconsin United Methodist Federation for Social Action

Since 1907, the Wisconsin United Methodist Federation for Social Action, WUMFSA, has carried Methodist belief into social action. The Federation advocates peace and justice, in the honored tradition of John Wesley. We apply the teachings of Jesus to current problems and crises, and act to encourage others to do Godly work on these issues. WUMFSA is generally aligned and allied with Social Gospel and Progressive Christian groups.

WUMFSA is the Wisconsin Chapter of the national Methodist Federation for Social Action; our chapter added "United" to its name to honor the 1969 union of the Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren churches.

WUMFSA seeks to:

  • Do no harm, do good, and attend to God (1996 Book of Discipline, pp. 70-72)
  • Witness for and aid the oppressed
  • Promote democratic socio-economic principles, according human dignity to all without discrimination based on race, gender, age, sexual identity, handicapping condition, or class
  • Defend civil liberties and human rights in accord with biblical tradition and the United Nations' Declaration of Human Rights
  • Abolish war and all weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear arms.

God's work is done with human hands. WUMFSA encourages you to join your hands with ours in this labor. Thus may we swiftly build the world of peace and justice that should grace this spot in God's universe. Let us together work constantly and confidently to create a world of peace and justice, to do our best for the kingdom of God.

As a convener of WUMFSA, I welcome your questions, comments, and suggestions.
